Fat, Thin or Whatever...

In this day and age, most people still think that when you're fat or a little on the chubby side, that's a sign of progress and wealth. I don;'t know about you but I have a different view about it. Today more and more young people are dying because of hypertension and other related diseases caused by unhealthy lifestyle. So I would rather be viewed as healthy than wealthy anytime of the day and besides we all now realize that health is wealth. No amount of money in the world can save us from other deadly disease. Just check in to Aquinas hospital for some minor illness and like a bat out of hell you'd sell yourself to the devil just to be healthy. Your bill would be enough to give you a hearth attack.

For me it's always easy to gain weight than to lose it. Just down a litter of soda daily and wolf down junk foods with high calories, sit your ass in front of tv 24/7 and you'd be inflated like a toy balloon in no time. But losing weight healthily, that's a totally different kind of story. Some would hit the gym, I would walk and run, others are into fruits and vegetables and and the whole nine yards just to be fit and healthy. If you compare the expenses and the hard work between the two..well you do the math..What I'm saying is that when you see an overweight person it doesn't mean he's rich. It could mean a lot of things so I hope they would wake up from this nonsense and   forget about what others would say if they see you lose weight.

Once, I went for a visit to where I grew up and encountered this person whom I didn't see for a long time and instead of throwing me the typical "kumusta ka" she blurted the word "kaniwang mo!" At that time I was still going to the gym pumping up some weights, doing pilates at home and this crazy P90X by Tony Horton so you can just imagine my disbelief (with my mouth hanging open.) I got speechless for a second there but I recovered quickly and gave what she wanted to hear. I replied " amo wara na ako pigakawn pawno." Explanation I believe is completely unnecessary and uncalled for.

I was jogging inside the Ultra two summers ago when I heard this old actor turned politician saying to his jogging buddy, "kaya yan si pare nagpapapayat kasi ayaw pa niyang mamatay kasi mayaman na siya." So you see the old belief turned a complete 360 degrees. They are losing weight to get healthy and to be healthy means to enjoy what life has to offer and yes he can afford it too. If I were you I'd ditch that old belief. Personally it never occurred to me to gain weight for status' sake. I have at one point in my life gained at least 10 lbs over my normal weight and I was miserable. I thought I'd see what it would be like to be with more flesh. From the moment I woke up in the morning my body feels heavy as if i was always sick so I lost the extra pounds and decided not to experiment anymore. Anyway fat or not, I'm still poor but I'm doing my best to be healthy not only for myself but for my  daughter most especially. When we are sick, our loved ones are greatly affected that they suffer more than us.

There are different kinds of reasons why we gain weight. Others resort to eating when stressed, lack of exercise, eating the wrong foods, blah blah blah. And it also doesn't mean that when one is thin they are healthy. Let's not confuse the two. I guess we could easily spot the healthy and unhealthy thin. As for me I don't care if you're fat or not, if you're a bitch or not. It's all about our personal choice and I always respect that.  We chose to be this and that and that's what matters. We reap the consequences anyway. This is not about criticism or anything like that. I can't say I'm healthy myself with my weight. I just remember that line and it fueled me. Anyway, I'm just saying....
